Stereobiology and stereophenotypes

We are now in an age where we can access biological information in its full three-dimensional glory. With advances in deep histochemistry, tissue clearing, optical sectioning microscopy, and image analyses, the 3D distribution of cellular and molecular compositions of tissues and their volumetric morphology is now within reach – collectively, the stereophenotypes of tissues.

It has become increasingly clear that only a stereoscopic view of biological samples, from genomic architectures within the nucleus and the disciplined arrangements of diverse cell types, to mesoscale tissue heterogeneity, can yield ground truth information because biology is inherently 3D. In other words, the era of stereobiology has come.

At Illumos, we are committed to building the best stereohistological technologies for clinicians and researchers to advance stereophenotyping efforts. With this new set of knowledge, new principles of diagnostics and therapeutics shall be derived for the benefit of humanity.
