Founder

Professor Lai Hei Ming is a clinician scientist from Hong Kong, chemist at heart, medical doctor by training, and an amateur microscopist/ biologist/ programmer. Built a chemistry lab at home at age 15, accidentally blew up the toilet seat, and luckily survived. While studying in med school, he wanted to view human biology in 3D and was saddened to learn it was impossible at that time. Over the next 10 years, he experimented with various deep staining and 3D imaging techniques until he invented a reliable one in 2022 and subsequently founded Illumos.
